đď¸Hey everyone!
A Good day begins with a good morning.
If morning goes well, entire day goes well and you say itâs a good day but if morning goes bad _maybe you missed your bus or you spilled your coffee then you probably figure out that the day is going to be a disaster. You usually canât control these but there are several Behind what you should be doing to kick start a Good Day even though people usually copy (if they do follow) some Instagram chick routine.
So, if morning routine are so important and people usually arenât able to craft a good one here is my three-step framework to build a morning routine that kick starts a good day.
Step 1: Wake up.
You canât possibly have a good morning if you wake up all sleepy and tired. Even after 8 hours of sleep, for certain amount of time your body remains in the sleep mode and you feel a little tired and not very focused. It usually lasts for around forty minutes.
Here are some things you could do to shorten this time period and start your day a little early.
Take a cold Shower: There are some scientific evidences that When you take a cold shower, your body temperature quickly drops and our brain senses danger and goes into alert mode. But when you take warm shower, your body feels comfortable and gets even more sleepy and tired.Â
Taking cold Shower for at least 90 seconds would be enough but if you donât have time for that dipping you head in cold water for 20 seconds can do the trick.
Respect Sleep cycle: Â Humans sleeps in 90 minutes. Every 90 minutes the cycle resets you would want to wake up just after cycle resets, if you crossed 10 minutes mark in the cycle it is better to complete the cycle if you arenât in mood of taking a cold shower.
Step 2:Â Unclog
A new day is a new start.
Resetting your brain for a new day is important for increased productivity and Focus. By some simple exercises you can start your day with presence of mind otherwise your mind would be scattered around with too many things to process (in the back ground) that does no good other than dividing your focus.
Here are somethings you can try to unclog your brain in the morning ; ~
Morning pages:Â You have to fill 3 pages by hand whatever comes in your mind. Thereâs no wrong or right way of doing this given that you are writing 3 pages by hand. Â
Morning walk: A quick walk-in nature can significantly increase your focus. Not only in morning but whenever I find myself struggling to focus, I take quick around the block, and it does the trick.
Meditation; It doesnât need any introduction I suppose. I use headspace to guide me through it, but you can use any of your choice.
Let your phone sleep: in the morning let your smartphone âsleep inâ for an hour longer than you. This might challenge at first, but it becomes more manageable with every passing day.
Step 3: Deep work
Ever heard the phrase âEat the frogâ it sounds pretty yucky I know. You have to get one considerable thing done in the morning. Well, âEat the frogâ means doing the most important thing first, but I have realized doing anything that counts works well (even better if you were procrastinating on it) and leaves you feeling productive and then you try to replicate that feeling all day leaving you productive and happy.
I like to plan what I am going to do in the morning, a day before so that I donât fall into trap of fog of uncertainties which basically leads to procrastination due to lack of plan. Â
Note: Everyoneâs situationâs different, you donât have to do things mentioned above do whatever works for you. I have mentioned tips that can be broadly used by everyone. When crafting your routine just make sure it follows the above framework. You can add things like skin care in the wakeup block and add workout block before Deep work but only if you struggle to do that and itâs not your habit. Â Â
Have a great week!
