Hey There,
Do you remember what you were doing one year since. Given that it wasn’t a special occasion, or you document your life in some form, you probably won’t have any recollection.
Documenting your life is the most cherished habit You’d Ever have but just like another good habit it can be pretty daunting at first.
I tried it years and years ago………
Well Almost 5 Years ago
At the time I had an undiagnosed illness, I was suffering from fever, headache and I was tired all the time. didn’t go to school and I used to be in my room mostly. it was the exact same time puberty had hit me.
I was like that for 4 months Straight.
One Day I spent all day sleeping and that meant I couldn’t sleep all night neither did I had any electronic devices, so to pass some time I picked a diary lying around and started writing about some thoughts and feelings. The Next day I wrote about how my day went and then every day I did that. As I recovered, I started going back to school, and life was back track, but I wasn’t journaling.
“I don't have time for this nonsense anymore” I thought.
It didn’t cross my mind for once that I’ll ever regret it so much. That 40 day of journaling is one of the most cherished things in my life, and it’s so nostalgic to read it back.
I tried again and again to get back to documenting my life through journaling but failed.
But then I read This book by Matthew dicks called Storyworthy. Not Fiction, Real life stories happened to you. One of the core ideas of the book is Homework of Life, this helps you capture some memories in a very friction less manner.
Here’s How it works.
Every day before you sleep, you have to write the most interesting thing happened to you that day. Which is Great Because I don't have to write entire page or two. I simply Have Spreadsheet in Excel where in one column I have date and in another the most interesting thing happened to me that day and other thing doesn't matter.
Do you have any recollection of What was the most interesting thing happened to you on 15th February last year. Here’s what the most interesting thing happened to me that day.
I always wanted to leave India and live abroad but today the thought of going to Delhi and leaving my childhood city made me anxious which in turn surprised me.
Homework of life. 15/2/2024
If I didn’t do my Homework for life, I would’ve probably forgotten this moment Wouldn’t I. I have missed to do this on 13th February, so I don’t have recollection for that day. Homework for life pretty much does the trick of documenting the interesting moment of your life without any hassle. Imagine knowing the most interesting thing happened to you on any point of life.
Here are some of my favorite entries of Homework for Life.
I bumped into a girl at School’s Annual function I initially didn’t wanted to go.

My parents are expecting me to go alone to Delhi for JMI Entrance test and its making the stakes higher and I hate it when stakes are high.

I found 500 Rs in back pocket of my jeans I wore after months exactly when I needed it the most.

I was talking to grandma about AI, she couldn’t believe it.

PS: Btw if you’re interested in storytelling do check out Storyworthy. This book is industry standard and had won various prizes and applause from creators like Ali Abdaal and me. Even if you’re not Interested in the book like I was, the book itself will communicate its value within first ten pages.
💌Weakly Highlights
I
I finally got myself around reading The Alchemist which hooked me right at the first sentence of the authors note, and I’m loving it so far and I think I’m already a fan of Paulo Coelho. Lesson Learned don’t ever ignore a book that’s sold millions of copies just because the description doesn’t interest me.
II
I’m a big fan of ted talks, so apparently when a ted talk by Tim Urban titled Inside the Brain of the procrastinator showed up in my YouTube Feed, I Knew I had watch it. I was expecting some kind of scientific guy explaining how procrastinator’s mind can be different than a normal human being, but that didn’t happen. It wasn’t much informative for me or anyone who knows a lot about productivity and stuff around it, but it was really laugh out loud which ted talks usually aren't and I really enjoyed it.
III
I literally completed my physics homework as the teacher was collecting it. God That was intense. It was small homework which I had forgot to write in my diary. If you are a student, feel free to try it someday.
