Hey family,
It was first day of school after summer vacation, and we were submitting our assignments.
All of the students had a very nicely decorated and pretty files and notebooks with DIY covers and whatnot. They probably had spent more time doing decoration than assignment itself.
As of me, no decoration and absolutely no DIY cover, I was Pretty sure that I’m going to get below average grade just because how messy mine looked with those.
But I was wonderstruck when I got an A in all of those, How could that be!
Later did I realized teachers didn’t care much about decoration and all that mattered was the assignment.
I have seen lots of student say that school gives a lot of homework in summer vacation to work with and they don’t really get to enjoy. But when you are DIYing your notebooks and trying to make it pretty which btw doesn’t really affect your grades and clearly isn't part of the assignment, I am not surprised.
There’s difference between being busy and being productive and most of us aren’t aware of it. Most of us are caught up in tasks that doesn’t makes much of difference. I mean, didn’t I get an A without all that crap.
Isn’t attention to detail important though.
Not always.
When I decided to write on substack, I was determined to make my newsletter’s formatting the best substack has ever seen. I racked my brain for five months figuring out the best color scheme, made million version of banners but quite literally I got nothing.
I was busy not productive.
Only if I started the newsletter five months earlier, I would have been so much more subscribers.
Sometimes this urge of being perfect often holds us back from taking action and making real progress and well, I am totally guilty of this. When you are taking things off the ground, obsessing over details is a recipe for disaster, because you are more likely to procrastinate.
Obsess over details only if it truly matters, like when you are producing a piece of art or when it’s not holding you back from making progress. And even if you are producing a piece art like novel, poem or song where attention to detail really makes a big difference, attention to detail must not keep you from making progress.
Ask Yourself.
Where am I allowing my urge to be perfect to hold me back.
What action will move the needle most towards my goal.
Rule Of 100.
There was study done by a photography professor at The University of Florida.
And what the professor did was divide the class into two groups.
The first group had to click 100 pictures that were good enough to get an A and the second group had to click just 1 exceptional photo to Get an A.
End of the quarter rolled around, and it was time for students to submit those photos and the professor noticed that the folks that had to click 100 photos ended up with some of the most exceptional photos far better than those who just had to click one exceptional photo.
This story proves that sometimes focusing on quantity over quality is actually a great way to improve quality.
Though That Doesn’t mean focusing solely on quantity but rather not obsessing over quantity but still thriving to get better.
That’s All.
Have A great Weak.

Highlights
Book: Flatshare by Beth O’Leary was on shelf for quite a long, so on Wednesday when I picked it up, I wasn’t expecting much but I really loved the cheeky Post it exchanges with her flat mate and Tiffy’s trauma with her ex, making this book one of its kind. There’s a quite a lot happening from a book launch, (Tiffy is an editor) to a trial, mommy issues and what not.
Book: When I find a book which is pretty dense, I try to read it slowly and take all my time to soak it all up. Pathless Path by Paul Milliard is one of those books. This book emphasizes on this idea of embracing uncertainty in life and letting life happen with no clear destination in mind. This book is a must read for if you feel lost in life or are not quite sure what to do with your career.
Song: let her go by Passenger Anniversary edition ft. Ed Sharen is on repeat since I stumbled upon it on YouTube on Monday.
Movie: Harry Potter Series have some sort of Beauty and magic to them, and no other movie or series have ever close to that. I rewatched Harry Potter & the Goblet of fire with my siblings on Friday night Goblet of Fire Has to be my most rewatched Harry Potter movie by far. Also planning on rewatching the whole series this summer. We’ll see How That goes!!!
I like the distinction between being productive and being busy. We have to let go of our perfectionistic urges sometimes to move on.
When I have assignments, I usually try to do the ones that will take specific amounts of time first, and then do more open ones like writing. This makes sure I don't let my perfectionism impede on the limited time I have.
Keep writing, I enjoyed the piece :)
